1. Storytelling Performances
Children have always loved a well told story and Hendre offers tailor made storytelling performances for every Primary School year level.
His performances are contemporary, original, imaginative, engrossing and in most cases extremely funny!
It is apparent to anyone who has seen him work with children, that Hendre has never lost connection with his inner child and he has an innate understanding of their interests, culture, and humour.
It is a joy to see the reaction his stories create in children. Their level of engagement is astounding. He immediately grabs their attention and holds it throughout his performance.
Because Hendre tells his own stories, his performances are a marvelous opportunity for schools to focus on Short Story/Creative/Persuasive Writing in the classroom. In fact Hendre now offers a free Writing Workshop with each storytelling booking. He also leaves free copies of his book and activity sheets for junior classes.
Performance details:
Gr 3/4 & 5/6
Twist Stories
Proudly in the tradition of Roald Dahl & Paul Jennings, Hendre’s stories for this age level are contemporary, quirky, exciting, unpredictable and very funny. Just the way they like them! Hendre also leaves free copies of his books for follow up work in the classroom.
Gr P/1/2
Participation Stories
For this age level Hendre uses the classic storytelling techniques of anticipation and repetition, but sets his stories in a modern context. This show is highly interactive, humorous and entertaining. Hendre also leaves follow up activity sheets that enable the children to recap the stories.
2. Writing Workshops
Persuasive writing
Hendre has workshops available for five types of persuasive writing including:
- Editorial opinion
- Cartoon with a message
- Advertising
- Article
- Propaganda
Creative Writing
Hendre’s stories are a marvelous gateway through which students can gain the crucial concept that all writers
“Place their life into the hands of their imagination.”
In the workshop Hendre gives students the opportunity to put this into practice. He shows them how simple and rewarding it can be.
“Hendre ran two workshops at our school - one for P-2 the other for 3-6. He inspired the children through story and literature to create superb pieces of writing that came from their heart. From the Principal to the class teacher, all were amazed at the quality, beauty and originality of the children’s writing.” Louise Young Early years Coordinator Wales St P.S.
N.B. Each Participant in the workshop receives individual and positive feedback on their writing from Hendre.
